FAQs
Q: |
What grade levels participate in your collective? |
A: |
We welcome lower elementary (grades K4-2), upper elementary (grades 3-5), middle school (grades 6-8), and high school (grades 9-12) students. We understand that grade levels are fluid, so we work closely with our parents to ensure that each child is appropriately placed based on his or her abilities and social development. |
Q: |
When and where do you meet? |
A: |
Our year begins in August and ends in May. We meet every other Tuesday at a local church near Paris Mountain State Park where we rent space. Classes are held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a lunch break afterward. Recess and club activities follow and conclude by 1:30 p.m. Optional field trips are scheduled outside of our normal class schedule. |
Q: |
Are you a drop off co-op? |
A: |
Include Collective is parent-led, and dropping off of students is not allowed. A parent or guardian must attend all meetings with his/her child and provide volunteer services in various capacities throughout the year. Parents are expected to take an active role in facilitating class activities and are encouraged to share their talents and skills with our students. |
Q: |
Do you accept part-time members? |
A: |
No, Include Collective does not allow part-time memberships. Our classes are carefully planned and resourced with the expectation that members will attend all scheduled meetings. |
Q: |
What curriculum do you use? |
A: |
Include is a supplemental, enrichment collective, and we do not deliberately teach academic subjects or use specific academic curriculum(s). We do incidentally touch on areas such as history, science, and writing as we participate in group activities and provide special interest classes and clubs. Our classroom materials and resources present facts, principles, models, and theories recommended by the majority of practicing experts within their fields of study. |
Q: |
What are your classes like? |
A: |
We offer age-appropriate, enrichment classes and activities for lower elementary, upper elementary, middle school, and high school students. These often include guest presenters of civic-related and special interest topics such as wildlife, history, and personal safety. In the past, our classes have included literature, drama, writing, science, art, cultural topics, and physical education. |
Q: |
Do you require a statement of faith? |
A: |
Include Collective welcomes all faiths without preference and requires no statement of faith. While religious content may be introduced from a cultural, historical, sociological, or anthropological perspective, classes and other activities include no religious teachings or practices. |
